MYAR Repurposes Vintage Military Garments for Fall/Winter 2019

Italian-based brand Myar began as a project by Andrea Rosso, Creative Director of Diesel's Licensing. Andrea was exposed to design from birth as his father is a renowned fashion entrepreneur, Renzo Rosso who founded Diesel and acquired many familiar fashion labels like Maison Margiela, Marni, Viktor & Rolf and DSquared2. Andrea later went to University to study pattern-making, he once revealed ‘I don’t actually know how to design or draw, but I like the production and technical aspects of how things work. It is in my blood.’ This combined with his upbringing, laid the foundations for his concept for MYAR - repurposing and upcycling military garments to create contemporary silhouettes.

Introducing the brand to JUICE, MYAR's Fall/Winter 2019 collection sees key wardrobe staples reworked into modern styles, offering functionality whilst adhering to the brand's principles on sustainability and upcycling. The collection includes trousers, vests and sweatshirts, bomber jackets, camo sweatshirts, parkas, cargo pants and bags. Rosso modernized the pieces by tailoring and adding functional details that reflect urban designs. Additionally, the entire collection was repurposed from quilted blankets, linings, army jumpsuits, patch logos, army parachutes and scraps. Andrea states "Military garments have always been a field of inspiration for me because of their shapes, functionality, fabric type, colors, patterns, and designs. I just modify shapes and looks from the past, customizing them to modern time, giving them a second chance.".
